A Small Apology

May 13, 2013

I'm sorry if you look at me and see someone you don't like. I've been through a lot in my 27 years. When I was a teenager people made me think that I should try and be like them. Perhaps I should change the way I walk or the words I say or the things I think. They made me feel like I wasn't good enough, smart enough, pretty enough. Then one day I realized they were wrong. And now I am a strong, confident lady. I'm sorry if you don't like the person I am. I can't (and won't) please everyone. And I only know how to be me.

Also, I'm sorry our attempt at family pictures turned out so horribly. There were a few decent shots and no good ones. But this picture sums up the day perfectly. My forced smile, Aaron's irritation at the situation, and Everly's opinion on having pictures taken at all. I'm very sorry these didn't turn out. They would have been really cute. Except I sort of love this picture. It just makes me laugh.

  2. I think this family photo is so real. I love it and the simple fact you put it out there. It's good to have these moments to look back on when you're getting sad to help you realize it wasn't always daisies and sunshine!

I'm also glad you found your confidence and place. That's a beautiful thing!

  3. Make no appoligies for who you are Missy :)

I love that you can be honest and open on your blog, its not all full of smiling faces all the time, I think its inspiring that you open the bad days of your life up too and can hold your hands up and just say 'Look, I've had a rubbish day.'

    Really admirable post.

    1. I've definitely had my share of bad days, but there are beautiful, great days too! This picture cracks me up. Aaron smiled for the rest but I could tell it was his fake smile. This is much better.

  8. Cute family, notwithstanding. I like real pictures so much better than staged ones...we have a few really awful family ones that are true to the moment we were in, and I love them best. Hope you had a lovely Mother's Day. Lynaea @ EveryDayBloom.com

  9. Won't lie this is probably one of the best family pictures I have seen! I think pictures are meant to capture how a person is feeling! Love this!

    1. That's how I feel about it too. I think I might frame it just so I can laugh every time I look at it. It reminds me that we're not perfect and that's okay.

  10. Being on a public blog can open one up for unkind remarks from people. As you know, public bloggers must develop a thick skin because it will happen, unfortunately. As we go through life, we have to understand that just as we will find people we don't like, we will also find people that don't like us. It is unfortunate that a pleasant little post and a true-to-life family picture brought an unkind statement from someone, but there are people out there who, though jealousy, bitterness or just plain meanness will make ugly comments. You are fortunate this does not happen often.

  11. I have no idea what the first bit is in reference to but I totally agree. When there is someone I don't particularly care for I simply don't interact with them, or don't read their blog, or ignore them. People don't need to be rude. I never understand why someone would go out of their way to be malicious to someone else. That so isn't worth my time.

But the real reason I'm commenting is this awesome picture!! I actually think it's freaking adorable. Your outfit is too cute, Everly is just darling, tears and all, AND Aaron is absolutely cracking me up! Maybe it isn't Christmas card material, although that would be hilarious, but this is definitely a keeper for the photo album.
